FDA approves non-opioid medication for pain management

The FDA has approved a new non-opioid medication called Jornvax (suzetrigine) for pain management, with clinical trials showing only mild side effects. In New York State, non-opioid therapies like massage, physical therapy, meditation, and acupuncture are promoted to help people reduce opioid use.

I advocate for less invasive pain management methods and recommend using medications only as a last resort. Always consult your physician before trying new medications.

Deep tissue massage, manual lymphatic drainage, and reflexology are excellent alternatives for managing pain. Based on your specific needs, choose these options to take charge of your pain relief.

The benefits of sports massage therapy and yoga are profound, when practiced correctly, flexibility and improved mental health are possible.

In yoga, you are actively moving and stretching joints and muscles.  In massage, you are passively receiving the benefits of stretching and moving joints.  Both yoga and massage can work together, or separately, providing many health benefits.

Benefits of massage and yoga:

• Helps control blood pressure
• Sports-related injuries
• Increased flexibility
• Increased lubrication of joints, ligaments and tendons
• May help relieve lower back pain
• May provide neck pain relief
